Barcelona Coach Guardiola Set To Rest Messi Against Getafe

Two defeats in a week is an unusual experience for Barca's star forward.

Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola is set to rest Argentinian forward Lionel Messi for Saturday's Primera Division game against in-form Getafe.

Messi is due to return from Argentina this morning after suffering two defeats in five days with the Albicelestes as World Cup qualification hopes begin to slip away.

A 3-1 defeat at the hands of Brazil in Messi's home town of Rosario was followed by a 1-0 defeat to Paraguay in Asuncion, both opponents qualifying as a result, as an out of sorts Argentina drop to fifth in their qualifying group.

And Argentina's demise could mean a further Messi absence for Barca. If Argentina finish in fifth place in the South American qualifying group Messi will be expected to play in the World Cup play-off against the fourth place CONCACAF side in mid November.

Guardiola is expected to rest his star player this weekend, according to AS, but it isn't yet known if he will travel to Madrid.
